When should my child’s first dental appointment be?

We recommend bringing your child to the dentist when you notice their first tooth erupting or around their first birthday. Establishing dental care early allows our children’s dentist in East Hills to do the following:

  • Monitor their early development
  • Monitor their airway in relation to their oral development
  • Establish a trusting and lasting relationship with your child

Early dental care also allows us to intervene early if developmental issues arise.

Your Child’s First Dental Visits

Early visits are about establishing trust and making dentistry fun rather than scary for your little one. We’ll count their teeth, give them a ride in the dental chair and talk to them in age-appropriate language. All the while, we foster the patient-dental team relationship and your child’s curiosity.

We believe this friendly, stimulating approach may help prevent future dental fear and phobia.

Our team will also provide guidance on caring for your child’s smile between dental check-ups, including brushing tips, nutritional advice and answers to any questions you may have.
